Earth Hour Impact Calculator for Jejakin

Earth Hour Website

Jejakin partnered with Earth Hour to turn a symbolic gesture into measurable impact, and we handled the full build end to end, from UI/UX design through to web development. We designed and developed a carbon emission calculator that lets participants see exactly what happens when they switch off their electronics for one hour.

The interface transforms an abstract environmental commitment into real, quantified numbers, showing carbon reductions across common household devices like bulbs, TVs, ACs, laptops, PCs, and fans. Set against a deep-space Earth backdrop, the design carries the weight of the cause while keeping the data readable and immediate.

Key Challenge

Carbon data is easy to ignore when it stays abstract. The challenge was making "kgCO2e" mean something to everyday people who have never thought about their footprint in those terms. On the build side, we needed a system that could aggregate live device-level calculations into one clear total, refreshing periodically, then translate that total into relatable comparisons (kilometers not driven, mangroves grown, hectares of forest) without overwhelming the user or diluting the seriousness of the message.

What We Did

  • Owned both UI/UX design and web development end to end
  • Designed a bold landing moment anchored by the Earth Hour identity and the universal power symbol
  • Built a live dashboard that breaks down emission reductions by device type (bulb, TV, AC, laptop, PC, fan) and rolls them into a single running total
  • Created an equivalence layer that reframes raw numbers into human-scale outcomes, like turning off ten lights matching the carbon absorption of one mangrove tree
  • Developed the working web experience with live data aggregation and periodic dashboard updates
  • Applied clean typography, a consistent dark-space palette, and card-based layouts to keep the data structured and calm
