A unified ERP for laboratory services
Catalyst App
Catalyst is a comprehensive ERP platform built for a leading national laboratory services and certification body. The system manages the full operational lifecycle, from sales leads and quotations through sample registration, testing and calibration, and the issuance of official laboratory certificates, all within a single connected workspace.
We were brought in to design the UI/UX for a product with enormous functional scope, spanning sales, lab operations, warehouse, and certification. Rather than treating it as one monolithic interface, our work focused on the highest-impact areas where clarity, accuracy, and traceability matter most: lead management, certificate document creation, and a full audit trail. The goal was to take a complex, compliance-heavy domain and make it feel structured, confident, and genuinely usable for the teams who rely on it every day.
Key Challenge
Laboratory certification is a high-stakes, detail-dense process where a single incorrect value or untracked change can compromise an official document. The core challenge was designing interfaces that hold enormous complexity (multi-step workflows, regulated certificate formats, version histories, accreditation rules) without overwhelming the people using them.
Each key area carried its own demands. Sales teams needed to track leads across a busy pipeline at a glance. Lab staff needed to assemble multi-page certificates with precise parameters, methods, and results while staying compliant with accreditation standards. And every stakeholder needed full accountability: a clear record of who changed what, when, and why. Tying these very different jobs together under one coherent, trustworthy system was the central problem to solve.
What We Did
For Catalyst, we designed the key workflows that anchor the platform, focusing on clarity, accuracy, and traceability:
- Designed a flexible Leads module with both a pipeline (Kanban) and list view, letting sales teams track deal stages, progress, and potential revenue at a glance, then drill into detailed records when needed.
- Built a structured Certificate Document Creation flow for laboratory services certificates, organizing signatories, analysis parameters, methods, accreditation logic, page placement, and version history into a guided, multi-step setup that keeps a dense regulated document accurate and manageable.
- Created a comprehensive Version History (Logs) system with a chronological activity timeline and a side-by-side version comparison view, so every submission, approval, rejection, and edit is fully traceable, with the ability to restore previous versions in full or by section.
